FAQ

What constitutes a review?

A review can serve many purposes. It can express your opinion about the paper, place the paper in the context of other literature, contribute to the discussion of ideas or concepts in the paper or identify important points or potential flaws that may be missed by a reader.

Reviews can be of any length from a few sentences to a few paragraphs, but we hope that each furthers the the understanding and discussion of research topics in the paper.

If I answer 'Yes' to the question 'Have you read this paper?', how do we record this?

Only you can see which papers you have read. To others, this information will be visible only as a part of aggregate statistics.

What do ratings mean?

There are three categories that are used to rank a paper:

Overall - How would you rate the overall quality of the paper (this includes quality of research, delivery, methods, etc.)?
Novelty - How novel is the research? Does it contribute to progress in its field?
Rigor - What is the quality of the research methods? Are they rigorous? Is the analysis in the paper thorough?

The ratings go from 1 - poor quality to 10 - outstanding quality.

If you check the box for your ratings to be public, other users will see your ratings next to your review. But both private and public ratings count towards the average ratings of a paper.

Can I enter publications other than published papers, such as books, book chapters, papers in press, etc.?

Currently the only type of publication accepted by SciOrbis are published papers. However, we appreciate the need and importance of having other types of publication, and we will implement these in the near future.
